Spirulina and Neurological Health:
What New Research Suggests
Spirulina is a nutrient-rich algae that has been widely studied for its potential health benefits, including its effects on inflammation and overall wellness.
A recent triple-blind clinical study explored its role in supporting individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), a condition that can impact mobility, energy levels, and overall quality of life. In the study, 64 participants with MS were given either a placebo or 1 gram of spirulina daily for 12 weeks.
The results showed that spirulina supplementation was associated with improvements in several areas, including:
- reduced markers of inflammation
- improved physical function
- increased energy levels
- better overall health perception
Participants taking spirulina also experienced reductions in body weight, which may support overall metabolic health. Importantly, spirulina was found to be well tolerated, with fewer participants discontinuing use compared to the placebo group.
While further research will continue to expand on these findings, this study highlights spirulina as a potential supportive option for overall wellness and inflammatory balance.
