Ashwaganda

Menopause Support

Menopause can bring a wide range of changes, including hot flashes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and shifts in hormone levels. Many women look for natural ways to support their wellbeing during this stage of life.

One herbal remedy gaining attention in research is ashwagandha, an ancient plant used in traditional Ayurvedic practices for centuries.

A recent double-blind clinical study explored the potential benefits of ashwagandha for women experiencing menopause. In the study, 60 healthy menopausal women received either a placebo or 300 mg of ashwagandha root extract twice daily for 56 days.

Researchers measured symptom changes using the Menopause Rating Scale, a widely used tool for evaluating menopause-related symptoms. The results showed significant improvements among women taking ashwagandha. Participants experienced notable improvements in psychological, physical, and urogenital symptoms compared to the placebo group.

Researchers also observed improvements in several hormone markers, including increases in estradiol and progesterone and reductions in follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Women taking ashwagandha also showed better overall quality-of-life scores and reduced perceived stress levels.

Importantly, the study reported very few adverse events, suggesting the herbal extract was well tolerated. While further research will continue to explore these findings, the results suggest that ashwagandha may offer a natural option for supporting women during menopause.
